MSGM Would Like You to Enrol at "Dreamers University" for FW23
Reimagining the traditional school uniform with a defiant attitude.
When MSGM was announced on the Milan Fashion Week schedule this season, tensions were high as fans of the brand were curious to see what Creative Director Massimo Giorgetti might deliver. For Spring/Summer 2023, Giorgetti took inspiration from Michel Houellebecq’s utopian novel The Possibility Of An Island, while choosing to reflect the beauty of springtime by holding the show on tech-forward Italian grounds.
The duality of it all was reflected across the collection, which saw models become laidback surfers interlocked with the appeal of modern-day cowboys. Slouchy denim sets were screen-printed with breezy beachside graphics, while dapper motifs were communicated via double-layered ’70s ties and patterned rugby tops matched with vibrant Western hats.
Hitting the ground running at Milan Fashion Week, for Fall/Winter 2023 MSGM took a different route, opening the doors to its own fashion-forward university for creative boys everywhere. Massimo Giorgetti rang the bells of “Dreamers University” this season, calling students to classrooms on MSGM’s imaginary educational grounds. As a “school of art, fashion, music, and happiness,” the label sent models down a rugged catwalk sporting reimagined school uniforms for rebellious rule-breakers.
The opening look kicked off first period with a grungy academic spirit as an autographed varsity jacket, relaxed joggers, and an artsy beret saw adolescent personalities collide. An array of institution-defying looks followed, including vibrant tracksuits for gym class, youthful suits for polished students, and collared crewnecks with “Dreamers University” badges paired with pinned shorts adorned with celebratory flags.
Elsewhere, “I Heart MSGM” graphics were stamped on pullovers and tees layered with dapper blazers and slouchy hoodies reminiscent of NYC merchandise. A fluffy cat acted as the college mascot, regularly seen on V-neck sweater vests and insulating outerwear that clashed with striped cardigans and rough-cut neckties loosened up with a defiant attitude.
Pupils finished their day and reminded us to maintain an ageless outlook on everyday life, challenging traditional standards with restless energy.
