Continuing to expand on its design language, South Korea’s KANGHYUK has now shared its Spring/Summer 2023 “COLLECTION 12.” Exploring the utilization of materials in their purest form, the latest seasonal range is centered around “Artificialness, Material, and Balance,” “Sustainability,” “Collaboration,” and “Installation.”
For SS23, KANGHYUK explored themes of artificial material, astronaut design, and industrial texture. Expanding its textiles with the technology utilized in the fields of aerospace and military, developing its observation of new textures with embossing, engraving, dot silicone, and knitting.
Aside from the latest installment of its upcycled car airbag series, KANGHYUK has developed ranges around bright yellow Aramid, aromatic polyamide, textile comprised of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibers, reinforcing ALKEX® with HYOSUNG ADVANCED MATERIALS, and leather-like thermal stable, chemical resistant ePTFE. Pointing to the future with VECTRAN™ used on the airbags of the Mars Pathfinder and Zylon which is found in the Mk3 parachutes used on SpaceX‘s Dragon spacecraft.
Leaning into its collaborative nature, KANGHYUK has built on its partnerships with HYOSUNG ADVANCED MATERIALS to push its material exploration and worked with 0914 to establish its baggage offering. Other notable collaborations include tailoring with GALAXY from Samsung C&T, a GORE-TEX® fueled range with Kolon Sport, and sporting takes with Umbro Korea. Finishing up the works of SS23, KANGHYUK developed expressions of the Club C 85 and InstaPump Fury with Reebok and Crocs Classic Clogs including accompanying Jibbitz.
