Chiahung Su Continues Focus on Taiwan's Aborigines With Its SS23 Collection
Developed in cooperation with indigenous tribes.

Following its Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Taiwanese label Chiahung Su has returned to unveil its latest Spring/Summer 2023 collection. “THE AUSTRONESIAN HOMELAND: PART I,” the evocative range continues Chiahung Su’s focus on Taiwan’s aborigines and other Austronesian ethnic groups.
Researching the findings of human historians, the label has developed its offerings around the handcrafting skills and wares of the indigenous tribes that have survived till today. Honoring the techniques, ramie fiber yarn of the Atayal people in Taiwan, known for its lustrous quality, and the hand-twisted wool of the Maori people of New Zealand are used throughout the collection.
It is important to note, Atayal master craftsmen Yuma Dalu and Huang Lanye were brought on to cooperate on the development of fabric. The two helped fashion hand-twisted silk and wool yarns into fabrics that were then hand-dyed based on the traditional way of the tribe.
Developed around contemporary forms, the material constructions create a garment study of styling tied to East Asia and Southeast Asia. The visual outcome offers a rich historical expression that outlines the influence of civilization and cultures over thousands of years.
