Activision Announces 'Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0' Release Date and 'Warzone Mobile'
Offering new ways to play ‘CoD’ at home and on-the-go.
During a showcase for the future of Call of Duty, Activision noted how Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 will mark a change in the franchise. The developer highlighted the focus on cross-progression and shared IW engine technology of MWII releasing October 28 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, now announced to be released November 16.
Warzone 2.0, set in a fictional region of Western Asia called Al Mazrah, will see the battle royale titled serve as an extension of MWII multiplayer. The sequel will feature a revamped circle mechanic with multiple enclosures, a new sandbox experience called DMZ, and 2-on-2 Gulag rejoin chances.
AI mechanics taken from MWII will offer enhanced AI-driven squad and enemy behavior, along with Activision’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat, a kernel-level solution that monitors player activity.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II beta multiplayer goes live September 16 for Sony PlayStation, September 22 for Microsoft Xbox and PC, while Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be free-to-play November 16.
Activision also announced the 2023 release of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile 2023. Set to be available for Android and iOS devices, the addition to the CoD ecosystem will support a shared Battle Pass, social function, and cross-progression. Created in collaboration with studios like Activision Shanghai, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Solid State Studios, Warzone Mobile will feature 120-player matches with operators, weapons, locations, and combat familiar to Warzone fans.
The Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will be free and pre-registration is now open on Google Play.
