Instagram Is Internally Testing a Feature Called Candid Challenges
The feature looks extremely similar to BeReal.
Instagram is running tests on a new feature called Candid Challenges. The feature, which has yet to be released, was discovered by mobile developer and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi.
Candid Challenges appears to look a lot like the photo sharing app BeReal. The social media presents users with a daily notification at a random time throughout the day, challenging them to immediately share a photo of themselves and their surroundings within a two-minute window. While the France-based app was launched in 2020, it became popular with majority Gen Z users around mid 2022.
Screenshots posted by Paluzzi show that Candid Challenges will ask Instagram users to capture and share a photo within two minutes at a different time each day. They can also add the Candids of others to their story tray.

According to Paluzzi, users will only be able to use the dual camera located on the back of a phone to take their Candid.
An Instagram spokesperson confirmed to Engadget that the feature is an “internal prototype” that is currently “not testing externally,” meaning that no users have access to Candid Challenges just yet.
