For BED J.W. Ford’s latest offering for the Spring/Summer 2023 season, designer Shinpei Yamagishi welcomes the intimacy of everyday evolution. From looking at the atmosphere around him to integrating his own experiences, the collection revels in newfound beauty.

By centering on this reality, Yamagishi puts forth a range of simple yet inviting pieces like tweed blazers, double-breasted suiting, flared trousers with front pockets, elongated button-down shirts, crewneck knitwear and more. Pieces are shrouded in classic shades of navy blue, gray and black alongside cuts of deep lavender, sea foam green and dandelion yellow. Beyond color, gingham patterns, striped patterns and tulle overlays add another level of vibrancy.

In line with Yamagishi’s perspective on daily evolution is the exaltation of symbolism, which can always add a renewed perspective. For this collection, he channels the innocent wonder and content of a child to reposition how one interacts with their world. “This collection is like a toy box turned upside down,” said Yamagishi. A focal example of this symbolism is an apple cut-out shape that appears on the knee of pants, the chest pocket of a blazer, the back of pants and a vest. Other standout details are sparkle-shaped metal buttons from the brand’s FW22 collection, pearls, toy jewelry and hanging flowers.

In related news, Tommy Hilfiger’s return to NYFW will incorporate a cross-generational playground titled ‘Tommy Factory’ along with a star-studded campaign.
