5000 Sits With Structure for SS23
Providing a take on evolving menswear silhouettes.
Oakland-based brand 5000 has taken a forward-thinking approach for its new Spring/Summer 2023 collection. Titled “Concrete,” the new offering centers the internationally-used material as a means of evolved layering and strength.
Undeniably, structure is simultaneously one of the most important and eye-catching aspects of a garment. With 5000’s focus on this key design element, it provides an expanded take on the evolution of menswear silhouettes. Pieces like wrapped skirts and asymmetrical silk dupioni halter tops posit warped construction details that blend contemporary and classic design notes. Aside from these immediately striking garments, relaxed suits and elongated pleated skirts are met with abstractly reconstructed elements.
“The collection is about growth on silhouette and what modern forms of silhouettes should be,” said founder/creative director, Taylor Thompson. “The silhouettes evolve the way humans have evolved for centuries. In kind of a testament to how humans and society will continue to evolve.”
In its emulation of dually rugged and refined strength, classic pieces like button-down shirts, relaxed pants and an updated black double-breasted suit make their way into the collection. With an overall subdued color palette of black, charcoal gray, off-white and brown, “Concrete” seeks to find the balance between modernity and longevity.
