adidas x Gucci is almost here. Three months since we first saw the shock collaboration at the luxury house’s Fall 2022 runway show, the partnership has now officially been showcased in a Carlijn Jacobs-shot lookbook, and it’s just as good as the fashion world expected.

The merge between a sportswear giant and one of the world’s most popular luxury labels is nothing new — adidas has previously worked with Prada, while Louis Vuitton famously worked with Nike and Supreme. Yet, adidas x Gucci takes partnerships to the next level, offering a comprehensive uniform for any Three Stripes head or luxe sportswear aficionado.

Of course, the collection is designed by Alessandro Michele — but so is the lookbook. Here, Michele drew from archival catalogs, encouraging his muses and models to pose dramatically against pops of color in a very ’80s infomercial form. It’s the right vibe for this collaboration as many footwear styles — such as the Gazelle — are shoes that were popular in the ’80s, and many of the applications from velvet and suede to snakeskin, leathers, bold prints, jazzy fonts and more also hark back to this energetic era.

adidas x Gucci is the result of blending two seemingly far-apart worlds, resulting in the hybridization of formalwear that sees leather heels, suede loafers, and silk scarves become infiltrated with sportswear (or at least more casual) codes. The same goes for bowling bags, which are crafted from Gucci’s premium leathers but covered in the Trefoil logo, or the shellsuit-style offerings that combine bold colors with an even bolder GG-Trefoil monogram. In short, it aches of the ’70s and ’80s in all the best ways.

Elsewhere, the lookbook shows co-branded micro-bags, monogrammed pleated skirts paired with clogs, terry cotton pool slides, a selection of jewelry, essentials such as T-shirts, and much more.

This inaugural adidas x Gucci lookbook anticipates the launch of the collection on June 7, 2022. It will drop at select Gucci stores, dedicated pop-ups, online on Gucci’s website, as well as on the adidas CONFIRMED app with more to come in the future. Take a look at the first round above.
