Patrick Quarm is a Ghanaian artist whose multilayered compositions serve as a form of cultural archaeology. Born and raised in the postcolonial twin cities of Sekondi-Takoradi, Quarm experienced the lasting residue of imperialism and seeks to investigate the many hidden layers of history through painting.

In conjunction with Avant Arte, Quarm has adapted an earlier painting from his personal collection into a limited-edition archival print. Twilight depicts the artist’s nephew amidst a surreal sunset made using a number of Quarm’s signature floral motifs. Inspired by various African fabrics, the artist meticulously juxtaposes these elements with traditional Western painterly techniques to command engagement with the viewer. This merging point allows Quarm to “further question what is true or false within the contemporary Ghanaian cultural third space.”

Twilight is a multi-layered archival pigment print with rounded corners, printed on 330gsm Somerset Enhanced Satin and 210gsm Fabriano paper and finished with embossing and silkscreen satin varnish details. As an edition of 15, the print comes hand-finished in a blue or yellow option and will be delivered fully framed. Both are available to purchase for $3,888 USD each at Avant Arte.
