Audemars Piguet Drops Royal Oak RD#3 - the First Automatic Jumbo Flying Tourbillon
The ultra-thin movement has been in development for five years.

Audemars Piguet clearly isn’t done with its Royal Oak’s 50th Anniversary celebrations just yet, having revealed the Royal Oak RD#3.
The stainless steel watch represents the first time the 39mm Royal Oak Jumbo case has housed a self-winding flying tourbillon and the brand from Le Brassus already has a smaller 37mm model planned for later in the year.
The RD#3 – with RD standing for research and development – features Audemars Piguet’s new ultra-thin 3.4mm thick Calibre 2968 movement, allowing for a watch just 8.1mm thick. The 3Hz movement has been in development for five years and bears an unconventional mix of modern and traditional decorative techniques.
Reflecting the original Royal Oak from 1972, the RD#3 features a Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50 Petite Tapisserie dial with white print logo and minute track. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback and features a winding rotor bearing the “50-Years” logo, which will only be available on these commemorative models during 2022.
The RD#3 is available via Audemars Piguet retailers now, although the brand is not announcing its price.
