LeBron James Becomes Second Player in NBA History To Score 37K Points
Adding to his GOAT status.
LeBron James continues to cement himself as the “GOAT” in NBA history. As he inches closer to former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who finished his Hall of Fame career with 38,387 points in the span of 20 seasons, King James has found himself scoring 37,000 career points.
The record was recorded in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The four-time champion has officially become the second and the youngest player to score 37,000 points, as he drained a deep three-pointer in the second quarter of the game. James, who is 37, has averaged 30 points per game since the 2007-08 season. Entering into Sunday’s game, he averaged 30 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists across 54 games.
As he continues to dominate as one of the NBA’s best shooters, his peers have crowned him as one of the GOATs to play the game. In a previous interview, Isaiah Thomas said, “By the time LeBron James is done, he is the only player in the history of our game that will probably be ranked top-10 or top-five in every single statistical category.” He added, “Now we’ve had some players who dominate as a scorer, or dominate the boards, but we have never ever ever in my lifetime or anyone else’s who is so thoroughly dominant in every category. When I say LeBron James is the GOAT, here’s what I mean.”
Despite James’ major milestone, the Lakers blew a 23-point lead and were defeated by the Pelicans 116-108.
