John Lawrence Sullivan Channels a Dark Energy for FW22 "DECADENTS" Collection
While also teaming up with YOSHiKO CREATiON on a jewelry collaboration.

Arashi Yanagawa’s John Lawrence Sullivan has returned for Fall/Winter 2022 to present the “DECADENTS” men’s and womenswear collection. However, while one might assume a decadent theme would consist of opulence and drama, John Lawrence Sullivan opts for what it calls a “loss of moral soundness,” perhaps a state of mind that subverts traditional aesthetical cues for the brand.
The result is strong, seeing JLS emphasize and exaggerate proportions across the FW22 collection by using a choice selection of materials and cuts. For example, Steiff fur swallows a bomber jacket and gives off yeti-chic energy, tailored suits are paired with ruched knitted sleeves and uber-wide pleated pants, while another bomber is constructed from a body of red string, echoing the dark themes that frequented previous JLS collections.
It’s the textures that are decadent here, but the theme evolves when plainer pieces infiltrate the collection. A tailored jacket is paired with skinny-fit pants and a shirt and tie combination, but this is soon developed by the following look harnessed by the oversized draped knitwear, or another that sees a boucle coat drown the silhouette with its volume.
Japanese artists Chiharu Shiota and Mitsugu Sato inspire the fishnet-wrapped MA-1 jacket and five-pocket denim, while a collaboration with YOSHiKO CREATiON offers a variety of exclusive jewelry pieces that round out the collection.
Take a closer look at the FW22 collection above, and expect the John Lawrence Sullivan offerings to be available online in the coming months.
