Greubel Forsey Drops $328,000 USD Double Balancier Convexe
Just 22 pieces will be made annually for three years.
Greubel Forsey has fitted its new Convexe case shape with twin balances for the first time in the $328,000 USD Double Balancier Convexe.
The Swiss Haute Horlogerie atelier patented the twin balance concept in 2007, with the idea being that taking the average timekeeping of two different balance wheels set on different planes is more accurate than the results from a single balance wheel.
Greubel Forsey has realised the concept in several different iterations since then, experimenting with different mounting angles before arriving at this configuration, which sees the twin balances set at opposite 30 degree angles and served by a constant spherical differential.
The assembly occupies half of the dial space inside its curved, wrist-hugging 43.5mm titanium case. Hour and minute hands are centrally mounted, while a small seconds sits at the four o’clock position and a hand mounted on the spherical differential charts its four-minute rotation. An open-worked hand sits near the three o’clock indicating the remaining length of the hands wound movement’s 72-hour power reserve.
Given the brand’s new strategy of creating more sporty, practical watches, the Double Balancier Convexe is also water resistant to 100m.
Greubel Forsey will create 22 pieces of this model each year between 2022 and 2024, meaning only 66 watches will ever be produced.
