Rick Owens' FW21 Parachute Nylon Stole Is Seven Meters Long

In recent years, Rick Owens has been playing with proportions more than ever before, and the avant-garde designer’s Fall/Winter 2021 “GETHSEMANE” collection couldn’t have been more exaggerated if it tried. From thigh-high heeled boots to capes that billowed and fell from the shoulders, FW21 was all about excess — and now the label has released its latest seasonal piece, a black nylon scarf.
Technically speaking this accessory is a stole — think shawl, only narrower and traditionally more formal. It comes in black and is made from padded parachute nylon that’s filled with goose down and mallard feathers, giving the piece its bulbous proportion. Measuring seven meters long, the stole wraps around the neck multiple times before dropping the entire length of the body and onto the floor — however, in true boundary-breaking form, the piece can also be worn around the body like a subversive bandage.
