Soulland Gets Autobiographical for FW22
The “Original Memory, An Autobiography” collection also presents a Li-Ning collaboration and knitwear by Armor Lux.

Silas Adler and Jacob Kampp Berliner’s Scandinavian stalwart Soulland returned to the runway yesterday for Copenhagen Fashion Week, presenting its Fall/Winter 2022 collection “Original Memory, An Autobiography.” For Soulland, it has spent the last three seasons drawing influence from books, creating its own trilogy that spans “Time & Disruption” in Vol.001, the fairytale of “Love & Tragedy” for Vol.002, and now for Vol.003, it imagines its own autobiography — subsequently remembering history and rewriting it, as you would with a real autobiographical piece.
Speaking on the inspiration, Adler — Soulland’s creative director — said: “The subject of the autobiography is not defined and maybe it’s not important? Maybe it’s Soulland itself? If Soulland was a person maybe this is Soulland writing a book about Soulland. In that case, Soulland would look back at almost 20 years of ups and downs and try to go back and dwell on what worked and what didn’t. And like a true autobiography, Soulland would ignore some of the mistakes that would be better forgotten.”
The result is a Fall/Winter 2022 collection that’s distinctly Soulland, telling stories of the past and the future, but at the same time, it also presents something new that’s reflective of the times. For example, the brand is known for its artist collaborations and subversive graphics, and this is continued this season with graphics penned by the American artist Charlie Roberts, who depicts flowers partaking in everyday activities such as drinking coffee, shopping, and listening to music across knitwear and printed Tencel or jersey looks — most evidently seen on the black sweater that’s adorned with headphone-wearing roses.
Elsewhere, we find knitted jumpers and beanies made in collaboration with Armor Lux, recycled plastic solar-powered watches made in conjunction with Skagen, and a return of Soulland x Li-Ning which offers up an expected array of retro-futuristic footwear. More interestingly, Soulland presented slides akin to the YEEZY Slide, offered in orange and tan in all its puffy glory.
Rounding out the FW22 range is an overall contrast to the above statements, serving more technically-infused looks with chest pocket-equipped tactile vests, skewed puffy outerwear, and tracksuits.

In other news, Raf Simons’ collaboration with Smiley has been released on HBX.
