Following Louis Vuitton’s tributes to Virgil Abloh, Off-White™ recently put together its celebration of its Chief Executive Officer and founder in Paris, the place Virgil called home in his last few years.
Putting together a powerful Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection runway show, the team at Off-White™ looked to continue the multi-hyphenate designer’s creative legacy. Titled “Spaceship Earth: an ‘Imaginary Experience,’” the presentation saw an audience filled with fashion and pop culture’s finest, brought together once again by Virgil.
The show not only featured ready-to-wear style but also a high fashion line that is described as Virgil’s take on haute couture. The special range was apparently “designed by Virgil and completed by the creative teams and collaborators with whom he worked.”
The Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear presentation opened with an excerpt from an interview with Pharrell Williams in 2020, discussing the understanding of “codes.” Models dressed in a defiant outlook of fashion with a street tinge made their way down the runway accompanied by big white flags emblazoned with “QUESTION EVERYTHING.” Though it was the 28 haute couture styles that really caught everyone’s attention. Accented by appearances by Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kaia Gerber, Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Amber Valletta, Serena Williams, Gigi and Bella Hadid around the chandelier marked stage.
Accented by extensive show notes, the looks saw an ode to Sarah Jessica Parker with “The Carrie B.” and a self-portrait in the form of “The Verg.” Along with the reveal of a special “EQUIPMENT™” collection with South Korean label POST ARCHIVE FACTION and a call back to a team-up with Shane Gonzales MIDNIGHT STUDIOS from 2016.
Complete with a soundtrack by DJ Jeff Mills, The Wizard, Off-White™’s parent company New Guards Group broadcasted the Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear presentation in a 100 location throughout Paris. Carrying Virgil Abloh’s penchant for the unexpected and unusual by showing them in a variety of spaces to disrupt the perceived outlook of fashion.
