Unfortunately for fans of The Last of Us, the epic game’s live-action series adaptation on HBO will not be arriving this year.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed that the video game-based series will not be airing any time soon. “We haven’t announced an air date yet,” he said, “but it’s not 2022,” noting that the series is still filming in Calgary, Canada right now.

Most likely to arrive in 2023 then, the series will feature Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal as Joel alongside his Game of Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Joining the two will be Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, Anna Torv as Tess, and Nick Offerman as Bill. The plot of the series will mirror that of the original game from 2013, with Joel taking Ellie to the Fireflies to develop a cure for the zombie-like infection plaguing the globe before discovering a more disturbing truth.

For fans of the franchise, stay tuned for more updates to come.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Taika Waititi’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death will arrive on HBO Max in March.
