Up There Heads to Venice Beach for New Balance 2002R "Backyard Legends II" Collaboration

Australian boutique Up There Store has a knack for creating highly-sought after collaborations, and you can expect to find the same kind of hysteria upon the release of its next drop, the Up There x New Balance 2002R “Backyard Legends II.”

Following on from June’s first “Backyard Legends” installment, the outback outpost has traveled from their Aussie BBQ set up of the first drop to Venice Beach, swapping out grilling sausages for burgers. With this new attitude comes a new sneaker, one doused in mesh and American Wolverine suede.

Working your way around the shoe, you find burgundy suede working the toe (alongside 2002R branding) and more of the same on the mid-panel. White suede is used to carve out the retro runner-informed shapes on the toe box and for the stripe across the mids, while white is also used for the open-pore mesh.

Accents of silver on the tongue and heel hark back to New Balance‘s archive, as does the 3M-equipped “N” emblem on the mid. Rounding out the design is the subtle hit of muted mustard yellow leather on the rear-quarter, a tone that’s echoed on the sole unit alongside muted ketchup red and gray plugs.

All this comes together on a sneaker that’s underpinned by New Balance’s proprietary N-ERGY sole unit, ensuring comfort and support all day long, while “AUS” branding on the tongue comes as a final nod to Up There’s narrative.

Up There will be exclusively releasing its upcoming New Balance 2002R collaboration in-store on December 9 and online at 8 a.m. AEDT on December 10 (4 p.m. December 9 ET/9 p.m. December 9 GMT). No price has been revealed yet.
