Rejoining the Brooklyn Nets late last month after an 8-game suspension, Kyrie Irving recently led his team to a 122-116 victory over the Charlotte Hornets. But it wasn’t the Point Guard’s play that has been catching attention, but rather his shoes.

In a clear reference to his endorsement split with Nike, following the suspension of their partnership, Irving was spotted playing in Nike sneakers with tape over the branding elements. The controversial basketball star chose not to wear his most recent Nike Kyrie 9 signature shoe and opted to hoop in a pair of Nike Kyrie 3 “Raygun” sneakers, originally released back in 2018.

Boldly sharing his thoughts on parting ways with Nike, Kyrie Irving took thick black tape and covered the midfoot and rear regions of the shoe. The obscuring tape was written over with “I AM FREE/Thank You God…I AM” and “Logo Here.”

With his future in the NBA also unclear, it is currently unclear if Irving will be pursuing any new endorsement deals.

In case you missed it, LeBron James spotted in FaZe Clan x Nike LeBron 20 NXXT.
