Set to be included in Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre set to debut in January 2023 on Netflix, Japanese horror manga artist, Junji Ito, is now readying an evocative release inspired by his iconic series, Tomie. The manga series centers around Tomie Kawakami, a mysterious, beautiful woman defined by her sleek black hair and the beauty mark below her left eye. Driven by an inexplicable power, Tomie drives men to fall in love with her, creating situations of psychological and emotional manipulation that lead to acts of violence.

Collaborating with Japanese body art artist and DJ, doooo, Ito has created a series of lifestyle objects that resemble sections of human flesh. Included in the mix are representations of Tomie’s left eye as dice, lips in the form of a coin pouch, and a finger stamp. It is interesting to note, the eye dice also has a realistic blinking function activated by rubbing the lower corners on the square.

Drawing from horror and science-fiction films, doooo first created his signature body art for his debut album, PANIC. A fascination with the body has gone on to film his expansive series of creations that recreate the look of human flesh with silicone.

Priced between ¥33,000 and ¥660,000 JPY (approximately $245 and $4,913 USD), the Junji Ito x doooo Tomie human flesh objects will be available exclusively at Tsutaya Books in Daikanyama from December 26 until January 16.
