The ASICS EX89 Debuts at Culture Cartel 2022
New team-centric colorways and neutral renditions in classic lifestyle materials.

Basketball trainers from the late 1980s typically featured white bases, but the ASICS GEL-EXTREME proved to be a style renegade by embracing bold color-blocking influenced by team jerseys. Today, its spiritual successor, the EX89, is updated with team-centric colorways once again, in addition to neutral renditions constructed with classic lifestyle materials.
Originally designed by Toshikazu Kayano in his first project with ASICS, the EX89 embodies the DNA of the 1989 GEL-EXTREME basketball shoe in a low-top silhouette. Kayano also took inspiration from his first business trip to the United States in 1987 to create the shoe’s outsole, whose configuration mirrors the aerial layout of the city. The sneaker was constructed with GEL™ technology during its playing days for impact absorption, but the modern version is updated with a sculpted heel and FF BLAST™ cushioning system for a lighter and more comfortable daily wear.
The new ASICS EX89 was launched in Singapore at Culture Cartel 2022, the highly anticipated street culture convention running from December 2 to 4. Visitors to the event had the opportunity to put the fresh kicks to the test and capture the perfect slam dunk shot at the ASICS basketball court, as well as participate in sure-win giveaways with attractive prices that included one exclusive pair of EX89.
The ASICS EX89 is available for S$159 online and in stores.
