Operating 63 stores domestically and abroad, Tokyu Hands is known as Japan’s best DIY department store that offers an extensive range of supplies catered for hobbyists of all calibers. The original bright green logo featured “CREATIVE LIFE STORE” above its name, with a hand pointing outwards on either end. The logo was designed by Yasuhiro Hamano, Tokyu Hand’s brand lifestyle producer, who wanted to convey the company’s philosophy of “creating lifestyles with one’s own hands.”

Established in 1976, the familiar Tokyu Hands logo has been in use for decades. Recently, the company revealed a whole new logo design, created by Tokyo and Milan-based design agency, nendo. Going by HANDS from now on – the store’s long-standing nickname – nendo retained the brand’s hallmarked green color to uphold its values and familiarity. Based on the kanji character for ‘hand,’ the new logo takes the form of a single-stoke, cursive-style font that intends to evoke hope and connection between the past and future in an abstract sense.
