HBO Sports will hold a lens up to the life and career of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal in a new documentary. The first installment of the four-part SHAQ will premiere on HBO Max next month.

The docuseries will contain a series of in-depth interviews with O’Neal, where he’ll open up about the beginning days of his career and subsequent rise to basketball stardom, a career that has seen the player win four NBA championships and received multiple league MVP honors. He’ll also discuss elements of his personal life, such as the experience growing up in a military family, and pursuing a business and broadcasting post-basketball.

Alongside O’Neal, SHAQ will feature interviews with his teammates, Penny Hardaway, Dwyane Wade, Dennis Scott, Brian Shaw, Derek Fisher and Rick Fox, as well as his head coaches Phil Jackson and Pat Riley and Jerry West, the former General Manager of the Los Angeles Lakers. Viewers will also hear from O’Neal’s mother, siblings and three children.

“We kept this documentary real from the start, and I do feel like it is the most honest look into my life and career up until this point,” O’Neal said. “This process allowed me to reflect publicly in a way I haven’t before, and I’m so proud of the work everyone has done to put it all together.”

Directed by Robert Alexander for Film 45, SHAQ premieres on HBO Max on November 23. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly.

In other entertainment news, Apple and A24 have teamed up for the Steph Curry documentary Underrated.
