HBO Max Releases First Trailer for Taika Waititi's New Pirate Comedy 'Our Flag Means Death'
Following the adventures of a group of “gentleman pirates.”
HBO Max has just dropped the first trailer for Taika Waititi‘s long-awaited pirate comedy series Our Flag Means Death.
Based loosely on the story of Stede Bonnet, the series follows the aristocrat-turned-pirate as he leads a group of “gentlemen pirates” across the Caribbean, eventually confronting the infamous Blackbeard. Of course, it’s yet unknown how faithful the series will be to actual history, where Bonnet finds himself partnering with the terrifying pirate leader before the two ultimately fall out and hunt each other down for revenge.
Aside from directing, Waititi himself will also be starring as Blackbeard alongside Rhys Darby as Bonnet, with Leslie Jones, Fred Armisen, Kristian Nairn, Nathan Foad, Nat Faxon, and Ewen Bremner rounding out the cast. David Jenkins will work as showrunner while Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted serve as executive producers.
There’s currently no release date yet for Our Flag Means Death, so fans of the director should stay tuned for more updates to come.
