Returning for Fall/Winter 2022, Taiwanese label Chiahung Su has put together its latest seasonal collection celebrating the roots of its island home. This time around, Chiahung Su has cooperated with Taiwan’s aborigines to highlight their ancient hand-weaving and dyeing techniques. Preserving the art form of ethnic culture pushed side by modernization, the collection develops a focus on fabric texture and traditional patterns.

Drawing from the techniques used by masters Taiya and Atayal people, Chiahung Su faithfully observed the planting, harvesting, spinning, twisting and weaving of raw materials. Utilizing silkworm and tea baking to process and color fabrics with mud and burying techniques to set and add depth to the color. Other antiquated textiles featured in the collection include a hand-twisted wool thread of the Maori people of New Zealand, Japanese Xirujia banana tree silk, ramie fabric planted by Taiwanese aborigines and Indian wild silk.

Aside from the importance of preserving the practices of the aborigines, the techniques used are sustainable and 100% environmentally friendly. Mixing thoughtful research with its established evocative design sensibility, Chiahung Su created a collection that blends the need for contemporary styling with cultural significance cohesively.
