André Leon Talley was a towering figure in the world of fashion. The greatly influential multi-hyphenate worked as a fashion journalist for the American Vogue for decades and continued to write for a number of other big-name publications including, Women’s Wear Daily, W and a brief stint for the New York Times.

Talley was most associated with his time at Vogue, where he served as the magazine’s news director, creative director and at one point, its editor-at-large, working closely with editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. Business of Fashion has reported that the fashion journalist suffered from a heart attack and died at a hospital in White Plains, New York.

The 73-year-old fashion giant was an industry pioneer who worked alongside some of the biggest names including Diana Vreeland at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute to Andy Warhol at Interview. As one of the most celebrated personas in the fashion industry, Talley’s eye for trends broke barriers for other journalists and designers following suit. André Leon Talley had a larger-than-life personality that echoed across the world and his work continually helped to elevate the ideals of fashion globally.
