After months of speculation and a cryptic gold-and-white letter sent out to fashion insiders, the Fendi x Versace collaboration is a reality.

“It’s a first in the history of fashion,” said Donatella Versace, where two major fashion designers had a “true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship.” The event took place today at Versace’s headquarters located at Via Gesù in Milan, Italy.

Entitled “VERSACE BY FENDI — FENDI BY VERSACE,” Donatella and Silvia Venturini Fendi swapped roles to be inspired by the other’s vision. Kim Jones, who has become an iconic designer in his own right, joined Venturini Fendi to design Versace’s women’s and menswear line respectively. While Versace brought her inimitable eye to reinterpret Fendi — tapping into the luxury fashion houses extensive archives. “Fendace is about the need for sincerity in fashion today rather than strategy,” wrote a statement released by Versace.

VERSACE BY FENDI was inspired by the mid-to-late nineties and explores the idea of duality across a number of staple pieces that meld the Fendi monogram with Versace’s emblematic Greek key motif. In contrast, Donatella took a more punk rock approach by instilling FENDI’s already youthful world with rebellious notes, such as using chain mail with lace and crystal-encrusted F’s to reinterpret the brand monogram.

There were a number of notable celebrities and models in attendance (see full list below), including the likes of Dua Lipa, Evan Mock and Winnie Harlow to Gigi Hadid, Kate Moss and Emily Ratajkowski. As a pivotal moment in the history of fashion, the world can only expect more of these collaborations to take place.

Elsewhere, Brain Dead took a cozy approach to its Pre-Fall 2021 collection.
