The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be embarking on a worldwide tour next summer, the band’s first since its original guitarist, John Frusciante, made his return to the group.

The global tour was announced via a satirical breaking news announcement for a faux station called KHOT. In the teaser, lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea serve as co-anchors named Johnson Hammerswaddle and Todd the Squirrel, respectively. Drummer Chad Smith gives a report as weatherman Randy Raindrops before Frusciante, as himself, sits down with the anchor duo.

“John, might we expect you and the fellas to play live anytime soon?” Flea’s character asks.

“We’re going to do a tour starting in June 2022,” Frusciante cooly responds, setting the anchors into hysterics.

Frusciante goes on to share that the U.S. leg of the tour will kick off in July.

The last RHCP tour that featured Frusciante was in 2007, in support of their ninth studio album, Stadium Arcadium. The guitarist departed from the band in 2009 to focus on solo work before ultimately returning in 2019.

The band is currently working on an album with producer Rick Rubin.

The RHCP has yet to share dates and locations for its upcoming global run but now has a “tour” section on its official website, suggesting that more details will be made available soon.
