Houndstooth Hits the New Balance 991 and 1500
Suit, meet sneakers.

New Balance‘s high-quality sneakers have long been adopted by the world of menswear — they can easily be paired with suits, oxford shirts and more, and are often championed by outfits like Todd Snyder and J.Crew. Now, New Balance is bringing sneakers and suits together with new houndstooth-equipped takes on the 991 and the 1500.
A spring-and-summer style, the 991 features a wooly beige and brown houndstooth pattern on its toebox, tongue and collar, overlaid by smooth beige suede eyestays, quarters, mudguards and heels. Dark gray suede provides contrast atop the toebox and towards the front of the collar as well, with a silver N logo taking up residence on the quarter for a dash of branded flair. Two-tone midsoles complete the look.
Where the 991 is designed with warm days in mind, the 1500 opts for a more fall and winter-ready navy shade. Its houndstooth toebox and forefoot combine navy, sky blue and white, all surrounded by a navy suede mudugard, midfoot, heel and tongue. Gray is introduced into the mix via a midfoot overlay and the collar, with branded hits appearing on the quarter and heel and the tongue nodding to the shoe’s made in England construction. White midsoles and gum outsoles add a finishing dash of detail.
These houndstooth takes on the New Balance 991 and 1500 are available for pre-order via Saks Fifth Avenue now, and are expected to ship no later than November 3. The 991 is priced at $260 USD, while the 1500 arrives at $230 USD.
