Louis Vuitton Fall 2021 Capsule Collection Is an Ode to the Archived Marque L. Vuitton Déposée

Virgil Abloh is introducing urban flares to classic Louis Vuitton formal silhouettes in his latest menswear capsule collection. The collection is heavily inspired by a 1914 greeting card written by the founder of the French brand, Gaston-Louis Vuitton in his early humble beginnings as a leather goods store. The letter itself featured an expressionist flower bouquet placed in front of a checkerboard background and included the now-iconic “Marque L. Vuitton déposée” phrase incorporated as a print.

The motif comes straight from the luxury house’s archives and has now made its way back into Abloh’s contemporary take on the classic Louis Vuitton shape. The branding is subtly fused into technical nylon outerwear, printed t-shirts as well as on double-faced wool coats. The quintessential checkered pattern is seen on the popular Keepall as well as a full denim suit in a light teal and classic black and grey colorway.

Throughout his ongoing tenure at Louis Vuitton, Abloh often utilized color, especially multicolor to transform the LV monogram. Abloh has reinterpreted one of his earlier works at the house to create a rainbow tie-dye jacket that resembles that of a monogram sunset. The same pattern is printed on hoodies, cargo pants, and shorts to make this the ideal capsule to add a splash of color to the fall wardrobe.

The Fall 2021 capsule collection launches later this month and the lookbook can be viewed above.

Elsewhere in fashion, A Ma Maniére has debuted its in-house apparel collection.
