To commemorate the opening of the new Battersea Power Station London Underground stop, sculptural artist Alexandre da Cunha creates a 100m kinetic sculpture titled, ‘Sunset, Sunrise, Sunset’.

Upon the cold, metal interiors of the station, Da Cunha’s technicolor installation brings light and a punch of color to the space. At the surface, the 3,500 flickering panels – usually found on an advertisement billboard – offer a moment of awe but beyond this, the work focuses on “movement, cycle and repetition” reflecting the hectic life of the Londoners who pass through.

Commissioned by Art on the Underground, the motion sculpture spans the length of the new station split across two friezes, and will be a permanent fixture as a reminder of the redundant power station that it takes its inspiration from. Take a look at the the Brazilian artist’s installation in the gallery above.
