Christie’s is set to auction off an Impressionist art collection by the late-Texas oil tycoon, Edwin L. Cox. Many of the artworks have not been in the public eye since before the Second World War and were collected over the last half-century. Highlights of the collection include Vincent van Gogh’s Cabanes de bois parmi les oliviers et cyprès and Paul Cézanne’s L’Estaque aux toits rouges.

Cox was an entrepreneur and an oil tycoon who was a constant supporter of cultural institutions across the country. In his hometown of Dallas, the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University is named in his honor for his generous patronage in the city.

Adrien Meyer, Christie‘s global head of private sales, lauded at the work coming to market: “Perhaps one of the finest collections of Impressionist art to ever come to auction, the Cox collection will be remembered as a milestone in the art market.” A collection that is estimated to garner over $200m USD when it hits auction in November.

In other art news, researchers in Southern Spain have dug up a well-preserved Visigoth sarcophagus.
