Lil Nas X made a memorable debut on Saturday Night Live‘s season 46 finale this weekend, performing live renditions of his No.1 track “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and his new single “Sun Goes Down.”

The 22-year-old rapper opened up his musical set with the platinum-selling track and partially reenacted the controversial music video. Halfway through the song, Lil Nas X headed to the back of the stage to perform a pole dancing routine but encountered difficulties.

“NOT MY PANTS RIPPED ON LIVE ON TV,” Lil Nas tweeted following his performance. “I wanted to do my pole routine so bad this what i get lmaoo,” he added.

Nevertheless, Lil Nas X was able to close out the performance while hiding his wardrobe malfunction.

The singer took to Twitter to explain the already hectic nature of the performance: “At first i was afraid to even perform. then we rehearsed for 2 weeks, then all of the dancers got removed because one had covid and new ones had to learn the routine in 24 hours, and then i ended up ripping my pants and couldn’t finish. everything happens for a reason tho lol.”

Later, the singer debuted his new single “Sun Goes Down,” wearing an all-white suit with fake bloody bullet holes. You can watch the latter performance here:

In case you missed it, Lil Nas X recently starred alongside Dominic Fike in Brockhampton‘s “Count on Me” music video. Watch the duo embark on a thrilling trip and share a passionate kiss in the visual shared last month.
