Sports Illustrated and UNKNWN Honor LeBron James With Collaborative “The Chosen One” Collection
The two-piece capsule revisits the four-time NBA champion’s iconic high school cover shoot from 2002.
Since his days of playing basketball under Keith Dambrot and Dru Joyce II at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, LeBron James was already expected be that “next guy” to make it big in the NBA. It was during his career then that his combination of size, strength and athleticism was recognized on a national scale and so Sports Illustrated and UNKNWN are commemorating the NBA legend’s career and journey with a special “The Chosen One” collection.
On February 18, 2002, Sports Illustrated released its latest magazine issue that had a junior year James graced on the front with a golden basketball in hand, suited up in his Fightin’ Irish threads alongside the words “The Chosen One”. This iconic high school cover shoot has been translated onto cozy hoodies and tees, both of which are designed in black. Emblazoned front and center on each piece is the cover, while Sports Illustrated and UNKNWN spell outs are positioned down below. More co-branded embellishments arrive on the left sleeves of each piece.
