Craig Green has continued his long-standing adidas Originals collaboration by revealing an official look at the new CG ZX 2K Phormar I silhouette. The sneaker, which first emerged back in March, is due to release alongside the CG ZX 2K Phormar II, both of which celebrate the designer’s functional approach.

The two silhouettes are constructed using as few individual pieces as possible, with a structure of cording details. The CG ZX 2K Phormar I’s upper is constructed from a single piece of translucent nylon, which is given its structure by high-density white cording that is visible through the upper and can be seen at the heel and top of the tongue. Printed 3-Stripe branding can also be seen through the translucent outer shell. The silhouette is available in two colorways, with both “Royal Blue” and white covering the lightweight ripstop nylon.

For the CG ZX 2K Phormar II, Green has created an opaque version of the previous sneaker. The sneaker is constructed using either a matt woven nylon or a PU coated warp knit, and it also features a metal cord stopper, and a metallic trefoil badge. There are three colorways of the CG ZX 2K Phormar II, including a beige nylon construction and black or white pleather designs.

Officially unveiling the sneaker, Green explained, “I’ve always been interested in design for function and how this can shape an aesthetic. Working closely with adidas, we were able to create a new way of constructing the upper of a shoe, using a single piece of fabric and a series of cords. These work together to create a structure that’s easily foldable yet also strong.”

Both the CG ZX 2K Phormar I and CG ZX 2K Phormar II are due to release via the adidas Originals web store and HBX on April 11. To launch the sneaker, Green has worked with regular collaborator Dan Tobin-Smith to create and shoot a spinning installation that transforms the silhouette into adidas Originals’ Trefoil logo.

In other footwear news, adidas also recently debuted the 4DFWD running sneaker.
