Akai Unveils Nostalgic MPC One Retro
’80s-inspired designs with the latest features.
Akai has pulled back the curtains on its new One Groovebox offered in a sleek vintage-inspired look with all the modern bells and whistles: MPC One Retro.
It offers the same functions as the standalone MPC One, but with a design that transports you back to the ’80s: a beige and gray body, with buttons, pads, dials and font that likens to older devices like the MPC 60 or 3000. The MPC One Retro looks more like something your grandparents might’ve used, rather than a hot-new digital production device. It comes with a seven-inch touchscreen and 16 pads that help you edit samples and program sounds. It also comes with 4GB of storage, an SD card slot and a USB-A port. Finally, the device will come with a handful of pre-programmed instruments, like DrumSynth and TubeSynth, alongside other features like CV/Gate outputs and MIDI I/O so you can fully integrate the device with other equipment.
The MPC One Retro will be available soon on Akai’s website for $900 USD.
