A new trailer for Gia Coppola‘s upcoming film Mainstream, starring Andrew Garfield and Maya Hawke, has been released.

The drama marks Coppola’s first feature film since 2013’s Palo Alto and follows the story of the charismatic Link (Garfield), a purposeless man who aimlessly makes his way around Hollywood, and the grieving Frankie (Hawke), a bartender who recently lost her father. The pair constantly cross paths until one day, Frankie decides to upload a video of one of Link’s tirade online. It surprisingly goes viral and Link and Frankie, along with her coworker Jake (Nat Wolff, also from Palo Alto), suddenly find themselves as the internet’s next big thing. As the three are deep into internet stardom, they are picked up by one Mark Schwartz (Jason Schwartzman), a corporate character who seems to take advantage of the new celebrities and possibly break them apart.

In a previous interview, the filmmaker labelled her film as “a love story of being in love with someone who doesn’t love themselves set against the new emerging culture of today’s world.” Coppola is joined by La La Land producer Fred Berger, who called Mainstream “a fun quick compellig ride.” He said, “It points a mirror at the audience in terms of how we engage with other people and how we engage with social media and react to incentives that are subliminally sent to us all day long,” adding, “It’s only when the movie ends do you realize that you’ve had a full meal of provocative questions. And part of the fun is watching Andrew totally shift from any persona that you’ve identified with him before.”
