Swedish label Our Legacy has revealed its Fall 2021 collection, taking inspiration from classic wardrobe pieces before inverting and reworking them to create something new. With a central theme of “conservatism inverted,” the collection sees staple and traditional items completely reimagined.

Throughout the collection, pinstripes are given a duller and darker aesthetic, tweed items are frayed, mud is used to coat silk, varsity-style sweatshirts feature slash marks and rips are repaired using safety pins. Through this aesthetic, Our Legacy recalls various subcultures, described by the label as “using symbolism or garments as a protest.”

Additionally, the Fall 2021 collection continues to blur the boundaries between menswear and womenswear through an exchange of fabrics and shapes. This includes materials and silhouettes associated with womenswear — including sheer shirting, lace T-shirts and cropped slipover vests — used in the men’s collection, while oversized overcoats, shirting and jeans from the men’s collection features in womenswear.

Speaking about the collection, Our Legacy creative director Christopher Nying explained its influences. “Growing up in Husqvarna, Sweden, I remember there was a small boarding school outside of town. When the students from the school came into town on the weekends to go to clubs some were still in their uniforms, and as the evenings went on their formal shirts and blazer jackets where thrown or tied around their waists. During this era, Swedish punk had kind of a mainstream revival, so some of the same kids where in studded belts and bracelets, putting safety pins on their lapels, using heavy eyeliner makeup. This clash of worlds aesthetic really stuck with me, and has been part of the inspiration for the Fall 2021 collection.”

Alongside the Fall 2021 collection, vintage motorcycle leather from 118 Second Leather has been upcycled for a series of unique pieces that will arrive in 2021.

In other fashion news, NOAH and Barbour recently presented a new collaboration.
