AïE FW21 Dresses the Artisanal Slacker
The NEPENTHES family member explores dramatic cuts and explosive patterns.
NEPENTHES family member AïE is based in New York, like Daiki Suzuki’s Engineered Garments, but that’s where the similarities end: AïE’s stylistic cues are drawn from nearly every element of popular culture, explosively diverse and drenched in patterns and prints even more than its peer. Fall/Winter 2021 sees the young brand exploring further realms of style without straying from its loungey looks no less suited for lazy days at home than the busy streets of NYC.
Plush fleece and warm wool pervade the offering, granting texture to the relaxed smocks, double-breasted coats and wide ponchos. Beneath, lush snakeskin, leopard, plaid and check patterns dance atop varsity jackets, shirts and slacks. Tonal velvet and cotton twill boast contrast stitching for retro workwear flair while sophisticated leather belts and bags blend rugged cues with a hint of luxury. Poofy berets and printed scarves add a posh counterpoint to staples, like the printed tees and sweats, drawing from time-tested standards of laid-back cool.
Expect AïE’s FW21 range to hit NEPENTHES’ Japanese web store, NEPENTHES New York’s site and select stockists later this year.
Meanwhile, fellow NEPENTHES family member NEEDLES recently introduced its own FW21 looks in a stylish lookbook.
