Tyson Fury Ordered to Defend Heavyweight Title Against Dillian Whyte
Putting to bed talk of the Brit taking on Oleksandr Usyk.
World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury has been ordered by the WBC to defend his titles against fellow British boxer Dillian Whyte.
Whyte — whose last victory came in the form of a fourth round knockout against Alexander Povetkin in March following a shock defeat the year before — will enforce the mandatory title fight against Fury, which is expected to take place in March 2022.
Fury retained his world title with the late stoppage of Deontay Wilder back in October, and remains undefeated as a professional. This news also puts to bed talk of Fury taking on Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk, who comfortably defeated Anthony Joshua in September to take the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO belts.
With Fury and Whyte now all but confirmed, a rematch between Usyk and Joshua also looks likely to take place at some point next year after the Brit triggered a rematch clause.
