The First Tesla Cybertruck Will Have Four-Motor Variant, Says Elon Musk
“With independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Friday said that the automaker’s highly-anticipated Cybertruck will first arrive with a four-motor variant.
“Initial production will be 4 motor variant, with independent, ultra-fast response torque control of each wheel,” he wrote on Twitter.

Musk calls the electric truck an “insane technology bandwagon” that will be equipped with both front and rear-wheel steer that will “not just [turn] like a tank” but will allow the vehicle to “drive diagonally like a crab.”
Tesla’s Cybertruck, which was first announced in 2019, is composed of stainless steel used to create rockets. Musk previously said the company received several hundred thousand orders for the truck when preorders became available.
Tesla removed all Cybertruck details and pricing information from its website in October. Interested buyers can put down a refundable deposit of $100 USD to secure a Cybertruck on the automaker’s website.
Tesla’s Cybertruck production is expected to commence next year and begin volume production in 2023.
