L'Epée 1839 x MB&F Orb Clock Takes Design Notes From the Future
Their 14th clock collaboration.
L’Epée 1839 and MB&F have officially announced their 14th collaborative clock. This time, the duo has taken inspiration from what appears to be a futuristic sphere.
The L’Epée 1839 x MB&F Orb features four “elytra” also known as beetle’s protective wing covers. The covers open up and allow the Orb, or the face of the clock, to be displayed in various positions. The clock can also maintain its spherical shape and be presented either completely closed or with one, two, three or all of its elytra opened. The transformable clock features four segments that permit the Orb to be hung or placed on a balanced structure.
L’Epée’s eight-day movement powers both the clock’s hour and minute hands, especially when all four elytra’s are open. At each hour, a chime, which is inspired by the brand’s classic carriage clocks, can be heard but can be manually turned on or off. The chime can also be heard on-demand with just a click of a button on the side of the clock. According to Professional Watches, the Orb features two mainspring power barrels that drives the movement of the hour and minute hand and chime function.
The Orb clock is limited to 50 pieces in each of the white and black colorways and is selling for approximately $30,700 USD on MB&F’s website.
