Supreme x JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN Fall 2021 Collaboration
An expansive collection inspired by the archives of the eponymous Japanese label.
Following the drop of its Timberland team-up, Supreme is continuing its major collaboration series, returning with a collaborative range with JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN for Fall 2021.
Born in 1961 in Fukushima, Japan, Junya Watanabe graduated from Tokyo’s Bunka Fashion College in 1984 and started his road to becoming a fashion designer with a patternmaking apprenticeship at COMME des GARÇONS MAN. After designing for tricot COMME des GARÇONS, Watanabe would launch the inaugural collection of his eponymous label in 1992.
Since his emergence as a fashion designer, Junya Watanabe has been lauded for his innovative outlook of construction and shape with unexpected materials. His distinct approach often experiments with uncommon synthetic and industrial textiles for challenging forms and looks. His Fall/Winter 2016 collection featured solar-powered trench coats and intricately pleated geometric garments crafted from polyurethane-bonded fabrics used in car interiors. Additionally, the Watanabe is also known for reimagining everyday staples like leather jackets, striped sailor shirts, denim chore coats and army surplus with distinctive tailoring and signature patchworking to develop elegant and utilitarian, familiar and forward-thinking garments.
For Fall 2021, Supreme developed a collection inspired by the archives of JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN. The expansive range is led by a Schott® Leather Peacoat, GORE-TEX Denim Parka and Pant, Patchwork Puffy Jacket, Cargo Pant and Backpack, and Work Jacket and Pant. While a Sweater, Long Sleeve Shirt, Short Sleeve Top, two Hooded Sweatshirts and Sweatpant, two T-Shirts, 5-Panel, Beanie and Keychain serve to round up the special selection.
The Supreme x JUNYA WATANABE COMME des GARÇONS MAN Fall 2021 collaboration will see a global release, available via the streetwear imprint’s website on November 4, 11 a.m. EDT in the United States and November 6, 11 a.m. JST in Japan.
