Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Sacked as Manchester United Manager Following 1-4 Defeat at Watford
The team has suffered its fifth defeat in seven games.
Following one of Manchester United‘s most torturous periods exacerbated by a surprising 1-4 defeat at Watford yesterday, Old Trafford manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now officially stepping down as manager.
“Ole will always be a legend at Manchester United and it is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision,” an official statement from the team reads. “While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success.”
The statement continued to pay tribute to Solskjaer’s tenure at the Red Devils both as a player and as a manager. While no successor has been named for the time being, rumors have surfaced over recent weeks about the potential hiring of Zinedine Zidane, who had previously led Spanish champions Real Madrid. Ex-United player Michael Carrick will now take charge as the team seeks a new interim manager for the remainder of the season.
