You’ve got to tip your hat to Deon Point and his crew over at Concepts for their efforts in incorporating storytelling aspects into their footwear and apparel collaborations, especially when it comes to projects with New Balance. Earlier this year, the two parties paid homage to the iconic rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox with a 57/40 collaboration, and now they will proceed with a new “Low Hanging Fruit” 992 and “Nothing Is Real” apparel assemblage.
For this team-up, Concepts dives into the entrepreneurial spirit of a fruit seller, and its through the products that it shines a light on high fashion luxury prints and the 1990s sugary drink movement. The bases layer of the 992s in this capsule mimic the aesthetic of a juicy kiwi. Uppers are presented with a tan suede fabric and come accompanied by tonal shaggy suede overlays and “N” logos, eyestays, midsoles and tongue branding that split between “CONC” on the right shoe and “EPTS” on the right. Other striking components include the heels which substitute the traditional “992” hits for the streetwear retailer’s namesake as well as the insoles which are printed with a collage of strawberries.
The “Nothing Is Real” apparel batch includes pullover hoodies, sweatpants, and tees that bear the brighter fruity accents and playful Concepts branding.
Peep a closer look up above, and note that the collection will be dropping come November 12 at Concepts Boston, Concepts NYC, and in-store at Bodega LA.
