Montblanc and Public School New York Team Up for Low Impact, High Style Bag Collection
A conscientious collaboration rooted in a shared commitment to respecting the planet.
German luxury brand Montblanc has tapped New York-based fashion label Public School for a new capsule collection of bags and accessories. More than just a collaborative offering, the series of five pieces is fashioned from thoughtfully-selected eco-conscious materials, showing off a mutual commitment to products that are respectful to the environment.
For their part, Public School designers and co-founders Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne lent their distinct, New York-bred DNA to the sleek lineup while maintaining the utility and storied craftsmanship of the German maison. “There’s a lot of common values and philosophies,” says Montblanc CEO Nicolas Baretzki of the pairing. “Montblanc is known primarily for its writing instruments, so when you see [Public School’s] brand statements, when they say that ‘the pen(cil) is mightier than the sword,’ that rings a bell. That definitely inspired us.”

Key styles in the collection are fashioned from ECONYL®, a nylon yarn that’s sourced from regenerated waste. In other words, the bags are made from fishing nets, carpets and fabric scraps that have been regenerated into a durable and sustainably-minded material. Other details drive home the conscientious assortment, such as recyclable stainless steel hardware and recycled polyester straps that feature co-branded details. A nod to this intentional approach appears inside the bags with a tag that reads, “Those who dare, those who will, those who care make the difference.”
Stylistically, the result is a bold yet timeless range of bags and accessories. The silhouettes, including a duffle, envelope, envelope mini, belt bag and card holder, remain rooted in Montblanc’s expertise in travel and lifestyle pieces, reimagined through the distinct PSNY lens. The black nylon is complemented by “Acid Green” piping — an unmissable detail that offers a through line across the five pieces. “At Montblanc, we love to say that our mission is to enable our customers and clients to leave their mark,” says Baretzki. “That’s an idea we felt this collaboration and collection supports.”
