New Balance Revives Its 2002 Model in "Grey" and "Black"
Alongside upcoming collaborations with N.HOOLYWOOD, Salehe Bembury and more.
UPDATE (September 9, 2020): HBX will be releasing the 2002R “Black” on September 13, 9 a.m. EDT via its official website.
ORIGINAL STORY (September 3, 2020): New Balance is bringing back its 2002 this 2020. This archived range was introduced 10 years ago in 2010 and has now been subtly updated and revived for the current generation — something the Boston-based footwear brand does exceptionally well (think 990, 992, 327).
Now referenced as the 2002R, the first releases of this modern iteration will arrive in “Grey” and “Black” as a throwback to its original launch. Its design features a classic New Balance running silhouette constructed using nubuck leather and mesh panels for the uppers, and combining ABZORB® technology with N-ergy® cushioning for the sole unit.
As continual plans for this renewed classic, New Balance has tapped a community of collaborators who will be launching the 2002R in limited and unique colorways from September to the end of 2020, including thisisneverthat, INVINCIBLE x N.HOOLYWOOD, COSTS x FDMTL, UNIK x Randomevent, and the Salehe Bembury autumnal edition that was recently teased by John Mayer.
The New Balance 2002R in “Grey” and “Black” will likely see a late-September release in selected regions via New Balance’s website as well as selected stockists.
