Taika Waititi to Direct New Pirate Series on HBO Max
Loosely based on a true story about Stede Bonnet.

HBO Max has announced that Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi will be directing and executive producing a new series based on pirates, named Our Flag Means Death.
The Academy Award-winning director will be working along showrunner David Jenkins and executive producers Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted to create a show that’s “loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.”
For those unfamiliar with Bonnet, the man was originally born in Barbados and lived a well-educated, wealthy landowner. In a turn of events, Bonnet went on to become a pirate despite never experiencing the open seas, abandoning his children on this endeavor. Unlike other pirates though, who normally stole and overthrew other ships, Bonnet commissioned a crew to build him a brand new ship according to specifications he laid out, named the Revenge. At one point of his pirating career, he teams up with the infamous Blackbeard to terrorize the Caribbean, but after a falling out, Bonnet ends up chasing his former partner to seek revenge.
There’s currently no news regarding the cast for the series or its release date, so those interested should definitely stay tuned for more updates to come.
