Reigning Champ has reunited with designer Jide Osifeso for “Season Two” of their ongoing collaboration. The latest collection takes inspiration from the mixture of newness and familiarity, with a focus on boxy silhouettes, technical fabrics and contrasting textures running throughout the collection.
The entire collection comes in a muted color palette of white, grey and black. Stand-out pieces include pullover hoodies with subtle twists, flatback thermal T-shirts and tearaway cargo trousers. Speaking to HYPEBEAST about the collaboration, Osifeso explained how it differed from the first release with Reigning Champ, “This time around we wanted to expand detailed construction and tailoring. Theres plenty to unpack once you have a piece in hand and examine how we put these pieces together.”
“Oddly enough it was informed by being at home, both literally and figuratively,” Osifeso continued. “This line was designed long before COVID-19 hit, but the way I’ve been dressing is driven by comfort and adaptability. I’m always going to let form follow function and go with utility first.”
To launch of “Season Two” of the collaboration, Reigning Champ and Osifeso have worked with Nigerian-born photographer Stephen Tayo to produce the campaign imagery. All of this imagery is shot in black and white, referencing the collection’s color palette, while the aesthetic is influenced by the Pacific Northwest’s unpredictable climate, a reference point in Jide Osifeso’s designs.
“The usage of monochrome for this editorial is a result for me to blend in properly the collaboration efforts with Jide Osifeso,” explained Tayo of the shoot. ” I think it’ll be really nice to key this in to be able to continue the simplicity the brand already stands for. I mostly shoot in colors; I’m starting to explore monochrome and I’m loving it.”
