Thundercat Writes “Grune’s Tune” for Cartoon Network’s 'ThunderCats Roar' Reboot
Titled “Grune’s Tune.”
As the artist’s stage name suggests, Thundercat has been a huge fan of the animated TV show ThunderCats Roar — in his early career, people around him, like Erykah Badu, kept calling him Thundercat because he always wore ThunderCats T-shirts to the studio. So it comes to little surprise that the artist would jump at the chance of writing a song for the show: “Grune’s Tune” is the name of an original track the artist wrote for Cartoon Network’s new reboot of the animation.
The song measures at a little over the one-minute-mark, featuring vibrant splashes of funky guitar notes in the artist’s usual style. His softened voice is accompanied by a succession of mellow keyboard chords and basslines, alongside layered vocal harmonies. It’s a song about the saber-toothed tiger villain Grune the Destroyer who the ThunderCats fear is coming to take over their land. Colorful animations accompany the song’s groovy sound, telling the background story of the villain while presenting the song’s lyrics in bold block letters.
